This is an ichigyo mono, a Zen symbol for Dream.
In “Shodo, The Quiet Art of Japanese Calligraphy”, by Shozo Sato, he says of this symbol: all deep attachments must be released. Scholarship, honors, and even enlightenment must be left behind.
A dream within a dream is the true world to which the Buddha pointed.
Our life is like a dream, an illusion within a bubble or like a fleeting dream. The Buddha is you. It is not a person outside of yourself.
I paint many Buddha’s because we are all containers of the Buddha nature.
